Why we exist
San Francisco is full of people making things and short on rooms where they actually meet each other.
Most of the city's good conversations happen in private — a studio, a garage, a slack channel, a dinner you had to already know someone to get invited to. The work is everywhere. The room is missing.
Assembly SF is that room. A building in the Mission with a floor you can clear, a kitchen that can actually cook, a mezzanine to watch from and enough concrete that nobody worries about making a mess. It is a venue, yes — but the point of it is what the venue makes possible.
We hold three things together on purpose. Create: the making, shown early and honestly. Connect: tables set so people who would never otherwise meet end up mid-conversation. Learn: ideas explained by whoever is closest to the work. Most places pick one. The interesting things happen when you refuse to.
We are at the beginning. The building is real, the programming is being scheduled, and the calendar will fill with things that actually happened rather than things we hoped would.
Where we are
270 14th Street, San Francisco
The Mission District: the part of the city where fabrication shops, restaurants, galleries, studios and startups still share a block. Assembly SF is a concrete-frame industrial loft with skylights, a mezzanine and a working kitchen — a building that was made for work and is being kept that way.
